POSITION PURPOSE: Participate in development and refinement of the organization’s strategic plan. Develop a Business Development plan which supports the Company strategic plan. Executive of the interaction with outside strategic partners as it relates to in- and out-licensing or divestiture of Company’s technology and to seek attractive technology to in-licensing or acquire. Responsible for proper commercialization strategies and forecasts to support the BD function.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Develop and manage a 3-5 year strategic business plan consistent with the organization’s objectives including implementation of the New Business Development portion.
2. Identify out-licensing opportunities. Compile preliminary information for each; estimate the resource implications, technical feasibility and commercial viability. Provide recommendations for further analysis to the Executive Team. Seek opinion of KOL’s.
3. Prepare business model cases of qualified concept opportunities for presentation to and consideration by the Executive Team, including definition of the market, market size, competition, IP position, estimation of technical and business success, market life, potential profit, financial evaluation, strategic fit and key assumptions.
4. Be the lead person representing the Company with outside potential strategic partners.
5. Assist in determining “best route to market” for approved new product concepts, including but not limited to, internal R&D, joint venture, in-licensing, acquisition or merger.
6. Work in conjunction with the organization’s Legal and/or related entities as needed to develop and implement an Intellectual Property management system that identifies, protects and exploits intellectual property assets.
7. Establish and maintain a network of contacts within the industry to aid in the identification and consummation of new business opportunities.
8. Be responsible for regular interaction with the product development, regulatory, and clinical groups within the organization.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
1. Bachelors or higher degree in a business, finance, or life sciences discipline. MBA strongly desired.
2. Minimum of ten (10) years related experience and a track record of achievement in business development with marketing management and operational experience. At least eight (8) years in a supervisory role. Demonstrated experience preparing and monitoring performance against project milestones, budgets, or forecasts. Experience in a similar technical environment strongly desired.
3. Demonstrated track record of successful transactions between pharmaceutical companies.
4. Demonstrated negotiation skills at the same level and scope.
5. Excellent organizational interpersonal skills.
6. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent presentation skills, including the ability to communicate information clearly and concisely, appropriate to the level of the audience.
7. Demonstrated financial and analytical skills, including demonstrated experience preparing, interpreting and monitoring budgets, balance sheets, income statements, projections, cash flows, discount rates and financing alternatives.
8. Demonstrated knowledge and skills with personal computer software in an office environment. Microsoft Office preferred.
9. Ability to accommodate domestic and international travel requirements of the position. Travel is typically 50%, but may be more depending upon business need.
